Are The Self-Taught Freelancers The Best Freelancers?

Do you need a degree to be a successful freelancer?

One thing is for sure, there's no school for freelancers. You get down to work. You are baptized in the freelance fire. That's it.

To be totally honest about it, your clients just couldn't care less about your diplomas or certificates as long as you are providing the outstanding freelance work. But, there's a catch.

Just because you don't need a degree, it doesn't mean that you don't need to learn. On the contrary, as a freelancer you have to learn a lot, all the time. Learning new things and constantly improving your skills, that's what freelancing is all about.

Freelancers Aren't Born - They Are Self-Made

Here's how it works for freelance developers. They're the best example. What usually happens is that a talented developer gets a job offer as early as during the first or the second year of studies. The next thing you know, you are jumping from one freelance project to another. Some of the best freelancers I’ve been working with shared their real-life freelance stories. They were totally open about it. Why wouldn't they be?

They just didn’t have enough time to get their degrees. The endless flow of new projects kept them busy all the time. You know what? Eventually, they stopped worrying about the formalities and college degrees. There's no need to feel sorry for them. They’re doing just fine.

From Zero To Freelance Hero

As long as you're willing to learn, you don't have to worry about your freelance future. Here's another great example.

One of my fellow freelance writers has become one hell of a logo designer. How? Well, most of his clients wanted to have both a new slogan and a new logo for their businesses and companies. He learned it all by himself little by little. It turned out that this was a win-win decision for him and his clients. Just one freelance address for all your client's needs. That's always a good plan. The last time I checked, he was learning some web design too.

What do you do with your free time while waiting for your next freelance project to work on? Are you playing video games or learning something new?

Your Freelance Money Will Burn If You Don't Learn

Every new thing you learn as a freelancer, no matter how small and insignificant it may seem, can be monetized, sooner or later. Everything you fail to learn, but you could have, will make you regret it, much sooner than later.

So, my dear goLancer don't stop believing and above all, don't stop learning, new things.
